Super_main

People seriously just need to leave JR alone.

Cwf1984

The shit fans make up about wrestlers and people in the business to vindicate their narrative is ridiculous. Worse, is the number of people who automatically agree with it because of the same sentiments

FerniWrites

Mob mentality is strong and the internet has only perpetuated that. People can easily huddle together with likeminded individuals and spew out venom and nonsense. Just look at the recent OLED Nintendo Switch. God forbid some enjoy it and want to buy it. If so, the mob that hates everything about it swoops in and throws a tantrum. It’s sad. It’s pathetic.

Dandw12786

That shit was hilarious. Gamers literally invented a product in their collective minds based on zero information, and then threw a shit fit when what was announced didn't match up. Like, it's one thing if a company gives vague statements to generate hype prior to an announcement, but Nintendo literally said nothing about a new switch ever prior to the announcement. And then fans get mad at motherfucking Nintendo for announcing a new product that isn't what they collectively fantasized about.

EnvyKira

>And then fans get mad at motherfucking Nintendo for announcing a new product that isn't what they collectively fantasized about. Sorry but that sounds like the same type of shit someone would say to defend WWE's bad booking of an fan favorite wrestler. Of course Nintendo never said an peep about the new Switch and we shouldn't be getting overhyped. Yes I agree with that. But at the same time, that doesn't save Nintendo from being memed on for trying to sell us the same console that has little to no difference to the OG console and try to up the price to $50 extra for it. Who would pay 50 dollars more for an bigger screen if they already the Switch and why would new customers want to buy that when they can get the OG version for an cheaper price? That doesn't make any sense and it's no wonder why Nintendo NEVER said an word about it, let alone reveal it at E3 because they know they would had gotten shit on for it since there is an little reason to buy the console if there is no type of performance upgrade. Like I'm not one of the people that was mad at the news when it came and happy to just stick with my OG switch since that means I don't have to spend heavy money this year and save. But I'm not gonna giving Nintendo an slide for trying to sell us something that isn't worth the money.

DeeSupreemBeeing

Makes sense. You CAN just opt not to buy it n go about your business, but why settle for that when you can cry like a bitch about it?

EnvyKira

Because "bitching about it" makes them do an better job next time on trying to sell us their products. I doubt much people are gonna buy that thing anyway lmao

Dandw12786

"Bitching about it" does nothing. Not buying it does. And from the sales figures, it would appear that they will be fine with their current business practices. I sure wish they'd act like other game companies, but they sell fuck loads of games and consoles just acting like Nintendo, so they don't have an incentive to do anything differently.

DeeSupreemBeeing

N that's what's gonna talk louder than you guys bitching about it. If it don't sell, they have no choice but to go back to the drawing board.

sunnycorax

Not mad about it but just tore into the subject for several paragraphs. I'm happy with my Switch too but maybe people would by a larger higher quality screen because they want it and they don't already own one. Do you think Nintendo sells those special edition Switches to people who already own one? Yeah no wonder Nintendo didn't announce the Animal Crossing edition Switch like why would I buy a Switch with an Animal Crossing skin when I already have one. It isn't like they upgraded performance or anything. See how that sounds? They sold the OLED as an aesthetic quality of life change and nothing more yet gamers found something to bitch about.

EnvyKira

>Yeah no wonder Nintendo didn't announce the Animal Crossing edition Switch like why would I buy a Switch with an Animal Crossing skin when I already have one. It isn't like they upgraded performance or anything. Don't you get the game with that tho? That already made it worth it than the Oled Switch. >See how that sounds? They sold the OLED as an aesthetic quality of life change and nothing more yet games found something to bitch about. Maybe because again, the console itself isn't worth crap and they jack up the price for it to $50 for something that is just an larger screen. Its bad enough that they don't cut down the prices on their first-party games and now they doing this. >Not mad about it but just tore into the subject for several paragraphs Naw, I was more upset with you hiveminding the same old "gamers are never satisfied" stick when there was reasonable reasons why people were upset with the switch. It was disappointing as shit and I really don't care if Nintendo had hyped it or not with how much money they earned from us over the years. I can accept them having an hard time to improve performance on the switch if they were honest about it, but giving us the same console but with aesthetic improvements with an price increase is not something that I liked to see from them since the price is not worth something like that. Hell, the price of it is probably what I'm and other gamers are more peeved at the most since the consoles isn't worth that much for an bigger screen, an wifi lan adapter that SHOULD HAD been in there from the start and an better stand. >but maybe people would by a larger higher quality screen because they want it and they don't already own one. Why in the world would they do that when they are just gonna find out that the OG switch is still the same quality as the Oled one, plus they probably won't even care about the bigger screen when they still just dock it to the TV. Thats makes the Oled screen in itself worthless from the start and it probably make the buyers in the future feel like dumbasses for wasting $50 on it. Instead of defending Nintendo on this, how about we expect better quality stuff from them since despite how much great games Nintendo had made so far over the years which I'm appreciated for, but they are also kinda shit on other things outside of that. One of them being staying with the times.

Dandw12786

> Don't you get the game with that tho? That already made it worth it than the Oled Switch. No, the skinned switch consoles rarely came with the games they were skinned with. They don't need to. They're not Xbox or Playstation where they need to bundle to sell consoles. Nintendo does just fine without bundles.

jaymcbang

It is not unique to pro wrestling. Mob-think and "first-to-post" seems to be a common trend that has caused a LOT of damage.

RBinTX

100% agreed. It's embarassing.

Caderfix

I really like his work to this day. Jim is cool and cracks me up, even if he mixes things up every now and again

Black-Morticia

I loved him on Shots With Brandi. Him in his Peak Grandpa shirt taking over the show and plugging his BBQ sauce was adorable. But so wild seeing people say "oh he hates his job" "he's bored" "he's sick." He's almost 70 years old. People make mistakes and aren't as energetic as they were decades ago.

remyrah

I recently decided to watch Kurt angle’s career on the peacock (starting with ‘99 survivor series and I’m currently at royal rumble 2001)and JR is always mixing up names, getting words switched up, forgetting things that just happened, etc. He also goes through entire episodes where he sounds uninterested. I think people are comparing his current AEW run to his highlights and that’s not really a fair comparison. He doesn’t do anything different than he did 20 years ago except maybe making mistakes a little more frequently.

jaymcbang

They also forget how much he's struggled with Bell's Palsy during that time frame. And he's STILL head and shoulders above most sports commentators on any level.

Black-Morticia

Wait... you mean to tell me in his 20+ year long career in WWE, he wasn't screaming "BAH GAWD! BAH GAWD! HE KILLED HIM!" every single episode???? That, like every other human being, you have your highs and lows? Is that what you're telling me? But seriously tho... I think people rewatch complication videos (MOST EXTREME MOMENTS IN WWE) and convinced themselves he was like that 24/7 and never made any mistakes like any other live sports commentator would.

Zero0mega

> He's almost 70 years old. I also like to remind people he worked for WWE in one way or another longer than Dante Martin has even been alive. I would also wager many people have ended a personal conversation with a "work mode" goodbye or vice versa, these things happen.

Black-Morticia

I agree 100%. Also I'm only 4 years younger than Dante and every time he's in the ring I'm like "Wow he's so young!"

sheets1975

He really does add a lot to AEW's commentary. Excalibur is great at calling moves but he often has a "misses the forest for the trees" issue in that he's so focused on calling every single thing happening while barely breathing that he overlooks the broader story developing throughout the match, which is what JR (and Tony) really know how to do.

bran1986

When he gets into a match, you can hear the old school JR. Like you could tell he loved that parking lot brawl between the Best Friends and Santana and Ortiz.

insomniainc

If you're wishing that upon anyone let alone JR leave the fanbase. You are not welcome here.

Narc212

He gets shit like this over a mistake... If anyone has ever earned the right for a mulligan, its JR. He's the dean of wrestling commentators.

hanneken

Just shit? I heard he was getting death threats. Who the fuck does that?

LookAtThisDudelul

Morons that take this shit WAY too seriously and can’t let it go. I thought the whole WWE Dynamite thing was funny af, especially with the young bucks bio, but then the internet did what the internet does and crosses the line yet again

GreenBerets4BRKFST

13 year olds

bran1986

Any day I get to hear JR call a wrestling match is a great day. The man is nearly 70, has Bell's Palsy, and still has done this for nearly 50 years. Heaven forbid he fucks up once in a while.

estofaulty

Over about 70 mistakes. Like, people make mistakes, yes. And it’s possible he’s just not putting in the effort he used to. But he still makes more mistakes than he ever did in his younger years. Does he have dementia? Probably not. Dementia is in the zeitgeist right now, so apparently everybody in the universe has it. But his faculties aren’t what they used to be.

Hadou_Jericho

Please take the ageism to the back of the room.

PwnnosaurusRex

JR is there because he's able to help mold the stories being presented in the ring. Excalibur needs to learn that from him before AEW can even think about replacing JR. From the Butcher/Blade debut to last week's Black debut shows that Excalibur is not there yet.

KthulhuX

While I agree that people shouldn't be trolling him or making up shit about his health for this, it's not ***a*** mulligan. It's a pretty steady stream of mulligans throughout every show. Was he one of the best? Sure. Has he been one of the best in AEW? Absolutely not.

Proxymophandlemama

Listen to him on his podcasts with Conrad and you'll see clear as day that JR is still very lucid and articulate. Leave the guy alone, he is a living legend and we're gonna miss hearing his voice when he eventually calls it a day.

UglieJosh

Lucid, articulate and really fucking cranky. Him picking fights with imaginary people is genuinely top tier entertainment.

GreatFNGattsby

“Red Ass” JR

bulletv1

Can’t stand Conrad otherwise I would.

Hobo_Code

As JR said, there's no conscience involved, so there's no thought or interest to "pulling it back in", even if they could.

DragonOfRazors

People absolutely do not care. They can be told first hand from the person theirselves that they are wrong and many people will still think they're right, they can't even begin to admit they made a mistake

[deleted]

Are we seriously still talking about this? Boo fucking hoo, a man misspoke once on live television, what ever will we do? The state of the wrestling fandom nowadays man. You keep doing you, JR

Emergency-Risk-4793

I love Jim Ross’s work on Dynamite. He adds so much to the show!

bran1986

I still pop when he uses one of his catchphrases.

trianglechoke89

Actually breaks my heart seeing how people are treating him. I mean they’re basically trying to gaslight someone into thinking they have dementia. He’s putting on a mature, tough front as he should, but I’m sure when he has a moment to himself he’s surely doubting himself like any normal person would. The guy is a legend, and his work in AEW is actually underrated if anything. Mixing up names isn’t something new for him, you’ve been watching too much of his ‘best of’ highlights and not any actual old eps of RAW. Shit I remember during a Triple H promo in 2003 JR was hyping up ‘Triple H vs Batista’ when in actuality it was H vs Goldberg. I swear the people complaining are just people that only started watching a few years ago.

Islanderfan17

JR is the legit GOAT. Man has given us all more than enough amazing memories for fans to allow him some occasional blunders in his old age. Personally, as a fan, I'm just happy as hell the man is alive and happy, especially after the tragedy of his wives passing. I'm grateful to see him every week on TV because I know one day in the near future he is going to be gone.

[deleted]

Not a fan of the BTE-fanbase disrespect for JR

dalekofchaos

Jesus fucking christ. All because he messed up one line? This is disgusting.

Jerry_Loler

You accuse me of everything around here! Who put slippers in the dishwasher? Who threw a cane at the TV?

chiiild

Wrestling fans: That bully Vince McMahon took JR, one of the best of all time, off commentary and said he was too old. What a disgrace! Also wrestling fans: Time to bully JR, say he's too old, and demand he be taken off the show he currently does commentary for.

yousorusso

Dudes just old and tired.

SpiralTap304

I love JR but I agree, he's old and tired. He needs to be used less often for his sake and ours. Bring him out for the big shit! It just feels like he doesn't know what's going on and the other two commentators have to tiptoe around to bring the point back home.

[deleted]

JR is no different today than he was back in the 00s. I’m going to assume people only actually know JR from Steve Austin highlight videos, because that wasn’t how he normally acted.

SpiralTap304

That's just not true, I've watched hundred of hours of his commentary weekly since 2000. He has gotten slower, which who doesn't when you are that age? I'm fine with slow but he forgets what he is saying as he is saying it. And then he will say the wrong thing so the other commentators will have to take focus away from the match to correct him or get him back on the right track. Watch that Andrade debut match. Listen to how many times and how forcefully Excalibur has to say his full name because JR kept fucking it up. Again, absolutely love JR, have been watching him for decades. I've got his books, his bbq sauce and just could not be a bigger fan. Just wish he would focus more or dial it back some whether that is moving to part time or just letting the other commentators get more time in.

thekydragon

I am honestly baffled that NXT managed to use JR better than AEW is. NXT used him to commentate select main events as a special guest and they used his voice to give credibility to important matches. AEW should use JR for occasional main events and sit-down interviews. There is less stuff that he'd need to prepare for, you make the matches they use him for seem even more important, and you elevate the wrestlers whose matches JR calls. Imagine if JR only called that Guevara/MJF main event on the episode of Dynamite a few weeks ago. You elevate those two guys even more by saying that the match (and by association those two wrestlers) is so important that **JR** is going to call it.

i-wear-hats

Take a look at this thread, you're either making shit up about his health or you're thinking he's literally the best thing in AEW. There's no inbetween. I just think he's not enjoying the product, making iffy calls because of it, and it's not enhancing my enjoyment of it. In a way I think he's often too big for the show - if Jim Ross, THE voice of TV wrestling for however many years doesn't give a fuck, why should we?

Unlikely_Magician630

Hes said multiple times he enjoys the product and occasionally has issues with a couple of aspects, but ultimately hes a fan of the promotion and what they put out. Why is this always taken as "HE DONT LIKE IT SO NEITHER WILL I"? At this point its just a bad take when the man is constantly refuting the claims

i-wear-hats

It sure as shit doesn't come across his commentating. That's why people are making this take. It's like if I were to say "It's fine" about literally anything - It won't come across as me enjoying the product but me being too polite/employed to say it sucks ass.

Unlikely_Magician630

So hes on it for some matches and not so much for others, I still don't see how thats the same as "he doesnt like the product at all", its still a bad take

roflcopter44444

while his age is a factor I think part of the reason also is a lot of what is going on in the ring doesn't jive with his philosophy on pro wrestling should be, so he isn't going to dig deep and give that extra 10% of effort. There are certain points of the show where you can kind of hear him mentally checking out. Its kind of like seeing Bruce Willis/Nicolas Cage in the many B movies they have been in for the last few years, they are talented actors however they know the stories they are getting aren't that great so they don't exactly bust their hump to deliver an award winning performance. Its really on AEW to figure out if the name value of having JR on the show is worth his unenthusiasm for certain talent/match types.

Shot-Needleworker409

The best way for JR to prove these people wrong would be to stop fucking up and to stop flubbing so much on every single show.

Housemadeofwaffles

I feel like there is a JR asking for internet empathy post every other day. I think the vast majority of fans are respectful of him regardless of whether they like him but he still zeros in on small percentage of internet trolls. I don't care for cyber bullies but this guy needs thicker skin or should step away from Twitter.

Granddukeofjosh

JR has onset dementia????? So sad
